• Overview

Putting it mildly,  Fancourt becomes addictive!  And so we return once more!  I have been fortunate to travel and stay in many Golf Resorts around the world, but I struggle to think of one better than Fancourt.  The quality of the accommodation, the three superb golf courses on-site, the setting beneath the Outeniqua Mountains, the friendliness of the people and the staff of the Resort.  Fancourt is quite simply the perfect location to escape the winter blues at home and enjoy a quite memorable week of wonderful South African hospitality and super golf.

Fancourt is quite simply one of the leading golf resorts in the world and is home to three of the best golf courses in South Africa.  The Fancourt Estate is located across 613 hectares of natural paradise, with close proximity to the Outeniqua mountain range and the warm Indian Ocean.  The accommodation at Fancourt is superb and the facilities of the resort include a holistic spa, four restaurants and many indoor and outdoor leisure facilities.  Our accommodation for the week are the ‘1-Bedroom Suites,’ which come complete with a separate living area.  They provide a spacious haven where we  can spread out and unwind, with each suite having a private balcony or patio designed to showcase the idyllic views of Fancourt’s manicured estate.

The Outeniqua course, ranked number in the top 20 South African courses by Golf Digest South Africa, presents an 18-hole parkland layout that is tailored to provide a laid-back golfing experience. Designed by Gary Player and named after the mountain range that forms its breath-taking backdrop, the course is always in pristine condition.

The Montagu course, also designed by Gary Player, has developed into one of the finest 18-hole parkland layouts in South Africa, earning it the number 6 position on Golf Digest South Africa’s list of top golf courses in the country. Exquisitely conditioned to provide a riveting golfing experience, this tree-lined course covers large tracts of varying terrain on rolling land.

The Fancourt ‘Links course’, is the course that Gary Player has described as his greatest feat as a course designer.  Featuring an undulating, windswept terrain and dune-style landscape, the course is the collaborative handiwork of Gary Player, course designer, Phil Jacobs and Fancourt’s owner, Dr Hasso Plattner.  The Links is currently voted number one in the country by Golf Digest South Africa, and as number 34 in Golf Digest US edition’s list of the world’s 100 greatest golf courses.  Transformed from an airfield into a piece of environmental and golfing heritage, The Links has hosted some of the most prestigious tournaments in the world, including the Presidents Cup (2003), the SA Open (2005) and the 2012 Volvo Golf Champions European Tour. Inspired by the famous links courses of the British Isles, The Links is considered a masterpiece and plays host to a range of global golfing legends including John Bland, Justin Rose, Retief Goosen, Branden Grace and Ernie Els.  The Links is a private Club, but limited tee times are available for guests staying at Fancourt, and if you do wish to play the course, please let us know and we will make the appropriate arrangements.
