• Overview

    The Hotel Royale

The privately owned Best Western Hotel Royale is located in the East Cliff area of Bournemouth, just a five minute stroll from the shops, restaurants and beaches of the town. All 64 bedrooms have been designed with comfort and relaxation in mind and are very well appointed. The modern leisure club boasts a large indoor swimming pool and the hotel’s beautiful sheltered gardens are ideal for soaking up the Bournemouth sunshine, should the weather permit.  A perfect base for our golf tour.

    Barton in Sea Golf Club

Barton-on-Sea Golf Club, founded in 1897, is situated on the coastal cliff between Highcliffe and Milford-on-Sea. The current 27 holes are a combination of the original Harry Colt design from 1932 and the newer holes designed by the well-known J. Hamilton Stutt, a founder member of the Association of British Golf Course Architects, which were completed in 1992. The golf club’s elegant and imposing clubhouse is truly spectacular, commanding superb views across the Solent to the Needles on the Isle of Wight, along to Old Harry Rocks at Swanage. Situated overlooking the lake and an Island green, the Clubhouse offers something for every golfer.

The Isle of Purbeck Golf Club

The magnificent Isle of Purbeck golf course is consistently ranked among the top 100 courses in the British Isles by Golf World. The Isle of Purbeck Golf Club dates back to 1892 and the original 18 holes were extended to 27 under Enid Blyton’s ownership. The course has great coastal views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight and its nature reserve setting ensures players are exposed to both rare plant and wildlife. The course given its quality provides great value for money and some say the view from the 5th tee is worth the green fee alone.

    Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club

Situated on the southern edge of the New Forest in the village of Brockenhurst, the 18 hole layout at Brokenhurst Manor Golf Club opened for play in 1919, four years after the golf club was founded. The course, one of Harry Colt’s lesser known designs, is a pleasant, unassuming, woodland track that extends to a modest 6,160 yards with a par of 70. Those who play it however, quickly recognise that it is one of the finest courses in the area and sits quite happily in terms of quality with its near neighbours, Ferndown, Broadstone and Parkstone.

    Bulbury Woods Golf Club

Surrounded by the ancient woodland of Dorset, with views towards Poole Harbour and the Isle of Purbeck, the Bulbury Woods golf course is a challenging and enjoyable course for all levels of golfer. The course presents tricky twists and turns, narrow tree-lined fairways and unexpected bunkers. The course is full of surprises and will keep us focusing on our game.

    Broadstone Golf Club

We conclude our week in Dorset playing what is now arguably the finest course in the county, Broadstone Golf Club. Founded in 1898 and laid out by Tom Dunn, the course was then redesigned in 1914 by the legendary H.S.Colt. Broadstone is set in glorious Dorset countryside and is one of the finest examples of an unspoilt healthland golf course in the South of England, and deservedly sits in the Top 100 golf courses in the UK, as judged by Golf World. Within 250 acres of rolling terrain, the fairways run freely and separately through superb natural healthland, with its swathes of heather, pine, gorse and rhododendrons. Several holes also offer magnificent views for miles around.
