• Overview

We have a splendid mix of heathland, parkland and links golf within the golf tour week.  The hotel for the golf tour is the Cumberland Hotel, which is the sister hotel of the Hotel Royale, where we stayed last year, and which provides a quite unique ambience, with its art deco design.  The hotel is located on the sea-front, just a short stroll from the town centre.  The terms of stay are ‘Dinner, Bed & Breakfast’.  The tour is five nights in duration, but you are more than welcome to come for a shorter duration if preferred and we will amend the cost of the trip accordingly.

    Sunday 4th June:

    – Check in to the Cumberland Hotel, Bournemouth

    – Dinner at the hotel

    The Cumberland Hotel

The Cumberland Hotel is a rather unique, boutique style hotel with a classy hint of opulence.  The hotel has achieved one of Bournemouth’s highest AA 3-star hotel ratings and the comfortable, good quality bedrooms reflect this. The hotel is also home to the Ventana Grand Café, a two rosette brasserie which has established itself as a firm favourite with locals and residents alike. Stepping out onto the Miami inspired poolside lido deck also gives you that feeling of being abroad with its green palms, turquoise pool and relaxing chill beds.  With a setting overlooking the beach and ocean, and being within a stroll of the town centre, the hotel is the ideal base for the Dorset tour.

    Monday 5th June:

    – Breakfast

    – 18 holes Remedy Oak Golf Club

    – Dinner at the hotel

    Remedy Oak Golf Club

Opened 2005 and designed by the former Ryder Cup captain and renowned course designer, John Jacobs, Remedy Oak has quickly established itself as one of the leading courses in southern England.  Built on ancient woodland steeped in rich and regal history, there are four elements to the course.  The crown – refers to Edward VI, the boy King, who stayed on site with Henry Hastings, the squire of the manor.  The deer – the King and the squire would hunt deer together over the neighbouring Cranborne Chase.  The oak tree – long associated with healing properties. At Woodlands, on the corner of the road leading to the golf club, is the remedy oak.  At this place, Edward VI supposedly healed subjects of scurvy. The crossed clubs – a modern creation which represents the club itself and its designer.  The course is magnificent, complemented by a warm welcome and hospitable environment.

    Tuesday 6th June:

    – Breakfast

    – 18 holes The Isle of Purbeck Golf Club

    – Dinner at the hotel

The Isle of Purbeck Golf Club

This magnificent golf course is consistently ranked among the top 100 courses in the British Isles by Golf World. The Isle of Purbeck Golf Club dates back to 1892 and the original 18 holes were extended to 27 under Enid Blyton’s ownership.  The course has great coastal views across the Solent to the Isle of Wight and its nature reserve setting ensures players are exposed to both rare plant and wildlife.  The course given its quality provides great value for money and some say the view from the 5th tee is worth the green fee alone.

    Wednesday 7th June:

    – Breakfast

    – 18 holes The Dorset Golf & Country Club

    – Dinner at the hotel

The Dorset Golf & Country Club

The Dorset Golf & Country Club comprises of three championship loops of 9 holes, the

Woodland, Lakeland and parkland courses.  The Club has hosted many championships, both professions and amateur.  The course features large undulating USGA quality greens and tees, optimal drainage and is recognised as one of the leading courses in the area.

    Thursday 8th June:

    – Breakfast

    – 18 holes Knighton Heath Golf Club

    – Dinner at the hotel

    Knighton Heath Golf Club

As with many courses in the Bournemouth area, Knighton Heath is a genuine heathland course, situated on 90 acres of high ground beside Canford Heath, and provides a wonderful round of golf.  The Club also hosts the Peter Alliss Young Masters.  The course dates back to March 1933 and was founded by Mssrs Douglas Maxwell and Eric Waller.  However, the initial history of the Club was almost lost as most of the material on the Clubs history is taken directly from the original company’s minute book, which was found in the rubbish, underneath a corner settee built into the new Club House!

    Friday 9th June:

    – Breakfast

    – Check out of the hotel

    – 18 holes Bulbury Woods Golf Club

    Bulbury Woods Golf Club

Surrounded by the ancient woodland of Dorset, with views towards Poole Harbour and the Isle of Purbeck, the Bulbury Woods golf course is a challenging and enjoyable course for all levels of golfer.  The course presents tricky twists and turns, narrow tree-lined fairways and unexpected bunkers.  The course is full of surprises and will keep us focusing on our game.
