Indeed we will experience a super combination of courses, with the unique links challenge of Burnham & Berrow Golf Club, the super parkland layout at The Kendleshire Golf Club and the wonderful Chipping Sodbury course located in the Cotswolds. There is also the option to play the iconic Manor House Golf Club at Castle Coombe, on the first day of the tour.
The accommodation for the tour is the 4-Star Aztec Hotel on the periphery of Bristol, which offers fine accommodation and easy access onto the M4, M5 and A Roads to reach the Golf Clubs. Dinner is also included on each nights’ stay.
Aztec Hotel, Bristol
The Aztec Hotel & Spa is a modern, purpose-built hotel in Almondsbury, Bristol and is an ideal location for our golf tour of the Bristol area. The hotel rooms are modern and well equipped and provide a comfortable retreat after a day on the fairways. The elegant bedrooms feature air conditioning and ground coffee with fresh milk. All rooms have a satellite TV, and a luxury bathroom with fluffy robes and designer toiletries. The hotel’s Restaurant, the Curious Kitchen, has two AA Rosettes, and features cosy open fires and a spacious terrace. The international menu includes fresh, local produce, and the bar offers a range of fine wines. The health and fitness facilities, which include fully equipped gym, functional studio, swimming pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room can all be used for an additional cost by prior arrangement. Spa treatments are also available by appointment only.
Burnham & Berrow Golf Club
Founded in 1890, Somerset’s Burnham & Berrow is particularly noted for its distinct sand hills that form such stubborn, natural obstacles along with the buckthorn and even a marsh to avoid mid-way through the round. Throw in the prevailing south westerly winds that whip in from the Atlantic and along the Bristol Channel, and players are left with a links challenge that is not for the faint hearted. The 6,658 yard, Par 71 course has evolved over the decades but today’s layout is largely the work of Harry Colt. The Club’s first professional was the legendary JH Taylor, the five-time Open champion, who described the course as “one of the most sporting courses conceivable”.
The Kendleshire Golf Club
The Kendleshire Golf Club presents a quite wonderful golf experience. With 27 memorable championship holes located in 260 acres of the stunning Frome valley, the course is constantly praised by visiting players. The Hollows and Ruffet courses, designed by Adrian Stiff, opened in 1997. They both feature a healthy amount of water, such as the ‘Island Green 11th hole. The Peter McEvoy-designed Badminton Course opened in 2001, complementing the two other courses, whilst adding an extra degree of challenge with its undulating greens
Chipping Sodbury Golf Club
Chipping Sodbury Golf Club is situated 12 miles north-east of Bristol, in an area of outstanding natural beauty at the foot of the Cotswold hills and adjacent to the historic, characterful 17th century market town of Chipping Sodbury. This Fred Hawtree designed parkland course was opened in 1971. Subsequent maturing, development and care have given a superb course which presents a challenge to all levels of golfer. Water hazards are a feature on many holes and the greens, though large, play smaller than their size, as many of them are raised slightly from the surrounding terrain.
