• Overview

This is week three of the three week long golf tours.

If you can join the Tour for all three weeks and indeed the pre-tour trip to Bangkok, that would be wonderful, but if not, please consider weeks 1 and 2, or 2 and 3 for example. Failing that, come for a week! To book your place on the tour, please contact us and we will send you the confirmation details accordingly. I look forward to seeing you in Asia!

Saturday 28th November – Welcome to Malaysia and Langkawi

    ~ Arrive Langkawi

~ Meet & Greet and transfer to the 4 star Berjaya Langkawi Resort, Langkawi

Langkawi is an archipelago made up of 99 islands on Malaysia’s west coast. Surrounded by turquoise sea, the interior of the main island is a mixture of picturesque paddy fields and jungle-clad hills. With a shoreline fringed by powder-fine sand and swaying coconut trees, Langkawi is the perfect location to enjoy some golf and escape the winter blues. Our hotel is the Berjaya Langkawi Resort, which is cocooned within a rain forest sanctuary, with boundless views of the emerald Andaman Sea and the lush green mountains all around. The hotel has a unique setting, superbly appointed accommodation, an array of leisure facilities, all of which are complimented with warm hospitality. Indeed, our rooms which combine rustic Malay architecture with a modern touch are located within the lush rainforest with views of the jungle.

Sunday 29th November – The 99 East Golf Club

Designed by Ross Watson, the 99 East Golf Club offers a different golfing experience in Asia, taking many of its design references from Australian and even Scottish links courses. Long wild grasses and reeds dominate the out of play areas together with the signature rice terraces, both distinctive features of this 7,330 yard championship course. Furthermore the course integrates native forest, wetlands and an orchard valley, with views both over the ocean and across the entire island to the west. The 99 East offers more than a challenging round of golf. The first five holes alone take us to the highest point of the course, and from the tee box to the monster par 5 sixth hole, views extend across the entire island to Mat Cincang in the west and Kuah Bay in the east. From there, we descend through the forest and rice terraces into the lower lying wetlands. The arrival back at the clubhouse returns us to an elevated vantage point with views over the course towards the ocean and the islands beyond, as well as forested mountains to the north.

Monday 30th November – Private half day Langkawi Tour

The first of two sightseeing days, which Langkawi is most certainly worthy of. Today we embark on a half day tour and visit the Mahsuri Tomb, which is the crypt of the legendary Princess Mahsuri. Most of the island’s natural attractions have fables attached in true Malay style and Mahsuri’s Tomb is probably its most famous legend. All will be revealed when we arrive! We then move on to Cenang Beach, Malaysia’s most developed west coast beach. Its shores are a gorgeous mix of white sand, crystalline turquoise-blue waters and verdant palms. Finally we head to Kuah, Langkawi’s commercial centre and shopping zone, and visit Dataran Lang, also known as Eagle Square. As well as offering beautiful views of Kuah Bay, Eagle Square has beautiful miniature fountains, terraces and bridges, making it the ideal place for those postcard perfect holiday photos. We will return to the hotel at around lunchtime for an afternoon at leisure.

Tuesday 1st December – Golf at The Els Club Teluk

When we first came to Langkawi the Els Club Teluk Datai was due to have opened, but unfortuntely the opening was postponed and we were unable to play the course. It is however, now open and it is unquestionably one of the world’s most uniquely captivating golf projects. Designed as a tribute to nature, the Els Club Teluk Datai course meanders its way through a million year old rainforest, cascading down to the turquoise waters of the Andaman Sea and is overlooked by the marbled limestone peaks of the Mat Cincang Mountain range. With natural streams flowing throughout the golf course, it will be easy for us to lose focus on our game, as we are immersed in such a serene environment. The Els Club Teluk Datai is rightly regarded as one of the best, if the not the best, golf course in Malaysia.

Wednesday 2nd December:   Gunang Raya Golf Resort

Nestled at the foothills of the majestic Gunung Raya Mountains, resides one of the most refreshing and scenic golf resorts in Langkawi. Sprawled over 300 acres of former rubber plantation land, the Gunung Raya Golf Resort was designed by the renowned American golf architect Max Wexler. Within its lush landscapes, we’ll encounter beautiful rolling greens, panoramic tees and impeccable fairways which are magnificently contoured with sand traps and water hazards. The Gunung Raya Golf Resort is an exhilarating golf experience that will whet any avid golfer’s appetite!

Thursday 3rd December – Exploring Langkawi

Today we head inland to the famous Mat Cincang Mountains for a half day sightseeing tour. Gunung Mat Cincang is probably Langkawi’s best-known mountain, aside from its neighbour Gunung Raya. At 850m high, it is the second highest mountain in Langkawi and offers spectacular views of the island. It is home to the famous cable car that carries passengers 709 metres above sea level to the apex of the mountain. Besides enjoying the spectacular views of the forested and craggy sides of Mount Cincang, on a clear day one can see all the way to the mainland and southwest Thailand. We will arrive back at the hotel at lunchtime, allowing plenty of time for an afternoon at leisure.

Friday 4th December – The Els Club Teluk Datai

We return today to the superb Els Club Teluk Datai. The vision was to preserve and enhance the natural environment, while creating a unique luxury and educational eco-tourism golf experience. From the array of natural flora and fauna, the course was designed with strict environmentally friendly guidelines and is seeking Audobon Certification, an award winning education and certification program that helps golf courses protect the environment and preserve the natural heritage of the game of golf. A unique project, a wonderful golf course and two rounds of golf that I am sure will live long in our memories. And what a way to bring our Asia tour to a close; one of the finest courses in Malaysia, located on one of the finest islands in Asia.
