• Overview

For this years’ tour to Asia we are presenting three week long golf tours, two of which are in Thailand, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai and the third of which is in Langkawi in Malaysia. We have also presented the option for a pre-tour shopping and sightseeing trip to Bangkok, South East Asia’s shopping paradise.

If you can join the Tour for all three weeks and indeed the pre-tour trip to Bangkok, that would be wonderful, but if not, please consider weeks 1 and 2, or 2 and 3 for example. Failing that, come for a week! To book your place on the tour, please contact us and we will send you the confirmation details accordingly. I look forward to seeing you in Asia!

Saturday 21st November – Arrival Chiang Mai

    ~ Arrive into Chiang Mai

~ Meet & Greet and transfer to the 5 star Shangri La Hotel Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai is quite an extraordinary city in the sense that it is a real retreat into a calm and enchanting world. The ‘culture capital’ of Thailand is a charming and laidback 700 year old city famous for sightseeing, trekking, soft adventure, shopping, spas and mountain resorts. The ancient city oozes culture and history with its pretty moat, crumbling bastions and ruined pagodas at every turn. The old town offers an authentic taste of provincial Thailand, with centuries old temples, bustling street markets and cosy coffee shops on every corner. Shopping is another notable advantage in Chiang Mai, along with very affordable restaurants. The golf courses in the area are also superb and provide a wonderful contrast to the courses in both Hua Hin and Langkawi. Our accommodation is the wonderful 5 star Shangri La Hotel Chiang Mai, one of the best hotels in the City. The hotel personifies elegance and style and provides the highest quality of service and facilities.

Sunday 22nd November – Chiang Mai Inthanon Golf Club

The Chiangmai Inthanon Golf and Natural Resort is very popular with the Chiang Mai visiting golfer. The course has the most wonderful setting with the panoramic vistas of Doi Inthanon, Thailand’s highest mountain, dominating the background. At 7,268 yards off the regular white tees, it’s a pleasant layout with a good mix of holes. A few strong holes will examine our game, but there are a few more leisurely ones for us to enjoy as well. The course is always in good condition and is a great complement to the peace and serenity of Chiang Mai.

Monday 23rd November – Chiang Mai Highlands Golf Club

The drive to the Chiang Mai Highlands Golf Club leads us through an exceptionally beautiful landscape, along extensive rice fields and on into the mountains. The Chiang Mai Highlands golf course is built on a ‘power spot,’ the hermitage of Kuba Sivichai (the revered monk who founded the famous temple on Doi Suthep). This very special site is breathtaking in every sense and literally tingles with energy. Its profound tranquility, high elevation, cool climate, fresh air, pure water, and fertile soil, form the perfect place to sculpt a living golf treasure. Again a golf course that completely captures the spirit of Chiang Mai.

Tuesday 24th November – The Mae Jo Golf Club

Located 20 minutes away from the heart of Chiang Mai, the Mae Jo Golf Club provides a thoroughly enjoyable golfing experience. The 18 hole, par 72 course was designed to blend in beautifully with its natural terrains and spectacular surroundings. The course layout provides challenging but fair play to both amateurs and professional golfers. Each hole has a unique design and requires a different game plan to shoot for a par. Several elevated tee boxes, which are spread throughout the course, providing panoramic views of the course and surroundings, and at the same time, provide more challenging plays. The course features rolling fairways and large challenging greens which are considered some of the most challenging in the northern part of the kingdom of Thailand.  Along the side of the fairways, we will come across many local fruit bearing trees, such as Longan, Lychee, Pomello and Tangerine, which provide not only unique scenery but also unique a tasting experience. The course is a good test of golf and the setting is rather unique and wonderful!

Wednesday 25th November – Experiencing Chiang Mai

A day away from the fairways today and one to be spent marvelling at temples, elephants and tigers. We will visit Doi Suthep, Chiang Mai’s famous landmark, which was built in 1383 and is located 3,500 feet above sea level. We will then progress to the ‘Elephant Camp’ and enjoy an elephant show and elephant ride around the camp, although the cost for riding the elephant is payable locally. If I tell you that elephants are really good artists, you may think that I am in need of a lie down, but at the end of this day you will be as transfixed as I was the first time around at just what an elephant can do. Oh they are good footballers too! We wil also visit a hill tribe village to experience life in rural Thailand and to complete the day we will visit Tiger Kingdom, where we will learn all about these wonderful big cats and if the desire is there, the opportunity exists to get up close and personal with the tigers. We visited Tiger Kingdom on our last trip to Chiang Mai and meeting the tigers really is quite some experience. Lunch is included within the days proceedings.

Thursday 26th November – Golf at Alpine Chiang Mai Golf Resort

The Alpine Golf Resort Chiang Mai nestles in a valley between the mountain ranges in the heart of the San Kampaeng natural forest. It is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful golf courses in Chiang Mai. The most memorable holes include the fourth hole, the longest par 5 on the course and one of the longest in Thailand, at 652 yards. On the seventh we need to take note of the interesting spirit house near the tee. The stream that runs along side and across this hole, from green to tee, makes it one of the most challenging holes on the course. The island fairway on the par 4 ninth hole is both beautiful and difficult. Playing over water twice and almost directly into the prevailing wind, makes this hole a challenging end to the front nine. The eleventh hole, a 524 yard par 4, is without doubt the most difficult on the golf course. Doglegging left with water down the entire left side, this hole plays almost like a par 5. The second hole with an island green is number 15, a short 169 yard par 3. This is the most intimidating looking hole on the course. While only a short iron for most, the sight of the green surrounded by water makes most players tremble. The island looks very small, but it is nearly 50 yards wide which is a large target for a shot of this length.

Friday 27th November – The Chiang Mai Highlands Golf Club

We return to the Chiang Mai Highlands Golf Club for a second round today. Set in the foot hills east of Chiang Mai, Chiangmai Highlands was designed by Schmidt-Curley Design giving golfers the distraction of magnificent views on every hole. Open to the public in December 2005, the course has already been heralded as one of the best new courses in Asia and voted among the top courses to play in Thailand.  In its first year of operation Chiangmai Highlands was immediately voted among the top new courses in Asia by Asian Golf Monthly and just a few years later voted among the top three courses in Thailand by readers of the same publication.  The accolades continued as South East Asian Globe magazine named Chiangmai Highlands the Number One Course in Thailand. And hence our return for a second round!
