• Overview

Many years ago we started to visit South Africa and the effect was the same as Asia, a region that can be explored over and over, without ever quite feeling that you have explored it enough. We have been returning to South Africa every year since. Asia has the same addictive qualities and that is why we keep coming back! For this years’ tour to Asia we are presenting three week long golf tours, two of which are in Thailand, Hua Hin and Chiang Mai and the third of which is in Langkawi in Malaysia. We have also presented the option for a pre-tour shopping and sightseeing trip to Bangkok, South East Asia’s shopping paradise.

If you can join the Tour for all three weeks and indeed the pre-tour trip to Bangkok, that would be wonderful, but if not, please consider weeks 1 and 2, or 2 and 3 for example. Failing that, come for a week! To book your place on the tour, please contact us and we will send you the confirmation details accordingly. I look forward to seeing you in Asia!

Saturday 14th November – Arrival Hua Hin

    ~ Arrivals into Bangkok

~ Meet and greet and transfer to Hua Hin (approximately 2 hours)

Our 2015 golf tour to Asia commences in the golfing oasis of Hua Hin, which is two hours south of Bangkok. Hua Hin has now become the leading region for golf in Thailand and righly so, with some of the best courses in South East Asia located in and around the town. Hua Hin is also a wonderful coastal town on the shores of the Gulf of Thailand. Our hotel for the week is the upmarket 5 star Centara Grand Beach Resort. The hotel first opened its doors to welcome guests in the early 1920’s, at a time when the new railway line to Malaysia was transforming the sleepy fishing village of Hua Hin into Thailand’s first beach resort. The hotel, originally named the Railway Hotel, was built along the classic lines of that era, and today is regarded as one of the grand hotels of the East. Sensitively extended and renovated, the Centara Grand Beach Resort & Villas Hua Hin retains its air of that bygone age of elegance. The hotel is set on the beachfront, with a wide expanse of gardens, but also with a prime town centre location, allowing us easy walking access to the shops and restaurants of Hua Hin.

Sunday 15th November – Private half day tour of Hua Hin

From previous experience it takes a day to recover from the travelling and the first round of golf is therefore best left until the second day. As such we have booked a half day tour of the Phetchaburi National Park, in the hills above Hua Hin. The most well known landmark in Phetchaburi is Khao Wang (Palace Hill). It was built under the royal command of King Rama IV to become his summer palace and was finished in 1860. The whole compound comprises of royal halls, palaces, temples and other buildings which were elegantly constructed in well balanced Thai, neoclassical Western and Chinese architectural styles. The tour provides a fascinating insight into the relatively recent history of Thailand.

Monday 16th November – Majestic Creek Golf Club

Our golf gets underway with a round at Majestic Creek Golf Club, a wonderful 27 hole set up located in beautiful countryside, just 25 minutes from Hua Hin. Recent renovations and the re-laying of greens have transformed this sleeping giant into one of the best golfing experiences in the area. The general setting is superb, with many varied holes and very high quality greens. The Majectic Creek course is the ideal course to introduce us to golf in Asia, and prepare us for the bigger challenges ahead!

Tuesday 17th November – Springfield Village Golf & Spa

Our second round takes us to the Jack Nicklaus designed Springfield Golf course. The coruse is rated as one of the best Hua Hin golf courses and is probably kept in the most stable condition throughout the year. The greens in particular are usually fast and always true. The course at Springfield has been designed to meet the high demands of a recognised championship golf course, and yet it remains an enjoyable challenge for golfers of all standards. Water hazards regularly come into play and each hole presents its own individual challenge and character requiring considerable thought as to our shot selection. Accuracy is also required at all times as the fairways are flanked by a series of hillocks and covered by a forest of small trees.

Wednesday 18th November – Sightseeing day

Today we head out into the Gulf of Thailand and enjoy a full day cruise exploring the coastline around Hua Hin. The tour starts by admiring the panoramic view of the area from a hilltop temple. We then cruise through the picturesque fishing village of Pak Nam Pran and out to the open sea. We set sail to Monkey Island, ferry ashore and feed the monkeys (bananas provided) and if you would like enjoy a relaxing swim in the clean, calm, warm, safe waters of the Gulf. We will cross to the National Park and visit the famous Phraya Nakhon Cave. We will also stroll along the beach and see the beautiful Langur Monkeys at play with their incredible yellow babies. A delicious Thai buffet is included on board the boat which includes chicken, fish, pork, vegetable dishes and fresh fruit. During the course of the day there is also a good chance that we will catch a glimpse of the endangered Irrawaddy dolphins. We will return to the hotel at 5:00pm giving us plenty of time to freshen up and recharge the batteries before dinner.

Thursday 19th November – Banyan Golf Club

We resume our golf today playing Banyan Golf Club, one of the best courses in Thailand. The course has been built amongst a pineapple plantation, provides spectacular mountain and ocean views from most all of the holes and is one of the best layouts in the region. In fact Banyan Golf Club won the 2009 Best New Golf Course in Asia, as voted for by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly. Strategically placed water hazards, waste bunkers and sand traps are spread out throughout the course.   The signature 15th hole is a 139 yard par 3, with panoramic ocean views all the way to Sing Toh (Tiger) Island in the Gulf of Thailand. Banyan is superb golf course that will live long in the memory.

Overnight – The Centara Grand Beach Resort, Hua Hin

Friday 20th November – Black Mountain Golf Club

The golf just gets better and better! The Black Mountain golf course was transformed from lush jungle and pineapple plantations. It is set in a valley, just next to the ‘Black Mountains,’ which are so named because of the large black rocks set into the mountains, which provide a backdrop to many of the holes. The Black Mountain course is everything we would expect of a world class golf resort. Not only is the championship course acknowledged as being one of the best in Asia, it is the only course in Thailand ever named in Golf Digest’s Top 100 Courses Outside the US. Here we will experience golf at its very best in a wonderful setting, with sweeping vistas from almost every hole, a challenging yet highly enjoyable design and tour standard conditioning. Since opening in 2007, Black Mountain has hosted three Asian Tour events, including the 2014 King’s Cup held in January, and has won a string of international awards, including best course in Thailand for the past three years in a row. Black Mountain is a fitting way to conclude our golf in Hua Hin.
