We will also be staying at one of the finest hotels in Vilamoura, the 5-Star Anantara Hotel, which is located next to the Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Club. The hotel is far enough out of Vilamoura to present a wonderfully relaxed setting, and yet close enough for us to travel to restaurants quite conveniently in the evenings. Furthemore, all five of the courses that we are playing are within a short driving distance of the hotel.
The golf programme this year includes the three Quinta do Lago courses, Laranjal, North and South, which are always so well received. We will also be playing the Dom Pedro Old Course and Dom Pedro Victoria Course. Five high class rounds of golf to enjoy during our Christmas week.
With regards to dining, we have booked four dinners at the hotel, which includes a special dinner on Christmas Eve. I will book restaurants within the Marina area on the other three evenings, thereby providing the opportunity to have both the convenience of dining in the hotel, but also the opportunity to dine out at some fine establishments during the course of the week.
With all of our events, we do our utmost to ensure that we have good quality accommodation an exciting and interesting golf courses to play. But we also put a huge emphasis on the social side of the tour and aim to ensure that everyone feels ‘part of the family’. We dine, drink, smile and laugh together and collectively enjoy what should be a fine social week of golf.

THE GOLF COURSES
Quinta da Lago – Laranjal Course
The Quinta do Lago’s Laranjal course is one of the finest courses in the Algarve and a favourite with clients in recent years. The course, which was originally an orange grove, is a sanctuary for fine golf. The narrow fairways and the well defined greens require concentration and accuracy to navigate what is a testing course laid out on a rolling and distinctive terrain. It is a par 72, 6,480 metres long, with five par 5s, eight par 4s and five par 3s, all set amongst umbrella pines, cork-oaks and orange trees, with a natural water course and five beautiful lakes.
Dom Pedro Golf Club – Old Course
Situated in the heart of Vilamoura this Frank Pennink designed parkland style layout is one of the oldest in the region and renowned all over the golfing world. Often described as the Grande Dame of the Algarve courses, it meanders throughout impressive pine trees, the principal hazard, over gently undulating natural terrain. Although it opened in 1969, the course was completely renovated and modernised 27 years later although no major changes were made to the magnificent layout. This is one of the courses in Portugal that will always stay in the memory of visiting golfers.
Quinta da Lago – North Course
The North Course was totally redesigned in 2014, by the renowned architect Beau Welling, in conjunction with former European Ryder Cup captain Paul McGinley. The new layout has been built to the highest specifications, with an investment of €9million. All the greens, tees, bunkers, irrigation and drainage systems and buggy paths have been re-built using innovative technology. Four sets of tees have been introduced on each hole to accommodate players of all levels. Golfers are challenged by a combination of undulating greens, well-positioned bunkers and water hazards. A low-cut Bermuda grass approach has been introduced around greens to create recovery shot options, therefore encouraging all levels of play. Through the introduction of seasonal rough grass and the planting of specimen trees, the aesthetics and environmental impact of the par-72 course has significantly improved.
Dom Pedro Golf Club – Victoria Course
The Victoria course, which covers some 90 hectares, is the most recent golf course project of Arnold Palmer in Portugal. As one of the best and most sophisticated golf courses in Europe, every care has been taken to ensure the preservation of the wetlands and the typical vegetation of carob, olive and almond trees. Several lakes, occupying 13 hectares, provide mirrors of water and strategic reservoirs for irrigation. The Oceanico Victoria golf course is an 18-hole, Par 72 championship layout, measuring 6,651 metres from the back tees. Opened in 2004, the Oceanico Victoria course is a unique, unforgettable experience for all who play here, and is a major venue for top international tournaments such as the Portugal Masters 2007-2015 and the PGA World Cup 2005.
Quinta do Lago Golf Club – South Course
The Quinta do Lago South course is the crown jewel of Quinta do Lago. Designed in 1974 by William Mitchell, who introduced American-standard greens, tees and bunkers to the Algarve. Soon the course gained a prestigious reputation and became a flagship in the European Tour Course. A favourite among European tour players, the 6,500 metre par 72 course is set among umbrella pines, lakes and wild flowers, overlooking the serene Ria Formosa National Park. The South course has hosted the Portuguese Open eight times, including Colin Montgomerie’s win in 1989. Having won 24 under par, he finished 11 strokes ahead and broke the world record with a round of 63.
