• Overview

With the famous Marina on one side and its own beach on the other, excellent rooms and facilities, the Tivoli Marina Hotel provides the perfect base for the New Year Golf Tour.  The restaurants, bars and shops of the Marina are a stroll away, and the hotel itself provides a wonderful range of leisure facilities, including the Angsana Spa, which is located in the gardens of the hotel.  The hotel also hosts a number of restaurants and bars, which are all worthy alternatives to dining out in the evenings.

The Oceanico Old Course is often described as the Grande Dame of the Algarve courses.  The course is one of the oldest in the Algarve and is renowned all over the golfing world.  Although opened in 1969, the course was completely renovated and modernised in 1997, although no major changes were made to the magnificent layout.  ‘Golf Digest’ has rated the Old Course amongst the world’s top 100.  The fairways run through surrounding pine trees and present an extra challenge to our game.  The course visually is a very attractive course with a great variety of holes, perfectly maintained due in part to a sophisticated irrigation system.  The Par 3 holes in particular are quite stunning and all quite different and they represent the toughest challenge on the course.  They all require careful selection of irons and near perfect ball control and the greens are small especially on the shorter holes, where there is simply no margin for error.

The Quinta do Lago’s Laranjal course is one of the finest courses in the Algarve and a favourite with clients in recent years.  The course, which was originally an orange grove, is a sanctuary for fine golf.  The narrow fairways and the well defined greens require concentration and accuracy to navigate what is a testing course laid out on a rolling and distinctive terrain. It is a par 72, 6,480 metres long, with five par 5s, eight par 4s and five par 3s, all set amongst umbrella pines, cork-oaks and orange trees, with a natural water course and five beautiful lakes.

This conventional Oceanico Millenium PAR 72 course opened in the year 2000, although the original back nine was formerly part of the 27-hole Laguna Course. Refurbishment to the existing nine holes commenced in May 1999 and included the complete rebuilding of the tees, greens and bunkers, particularly for holes 8 and 9, the only ones on this loop with water hazards, with the aim to simplify the strategy of the course to make it more golfer-friendly.  The course is particularly open, although some holes (the 3rd to the 7th) wind between pine trees and are similar to the neighbouring fairways of the Oceanico Old Course and Oceanico Pinhal. In this more wooded area, the fairways are narrower and require greater accuracy – while the rest of the course has a clear landscape enriched by lakes at the 4th, 17th and 18th holes. The arrival of the Oceanico Millennium course made Vilamoura one of the main, if not the main, European golf destinations.

Opened in 1974, Quinta do Lago South has hosted the ‘Portuguese Open Championship’ eight times, together with many other important professional and amateur championships. The course is set in a natural setting surrounded by umbrella pines, lakes and wild vegetation, with the stunning Ria Formosa nature reserve as the backdrop.  Each hole has generous landing areas off the tees and well-defined routes through the woodland and pine setting.

The Oceanico Victoria course, which covers some 90 hectares, is the most recent golf course project of Arnold Palmer in Portugal. As one of the best and most sophisticated golf courses in Europe, every care has been taken to ensure the preservation of the wetlands and the typical vegetation of carob, olive and almond trees. Several lakes, occupying 13 hectares, provide mirrors of water and strategic reservoirs for irrigation.  The Oceanico Victoria golf course is an 18-hole, Par 72 championship layout, measuring 6,651 metres from the back tees.  Opened in 2004, the Oceanico Victoria course is a unique, unforgettable experience for all who play here, and is a major venue for top international tournaments such as the Portugal Masters 2007-2015 and the PGA World Cup 2005.
