Cotswolds Golf Tour Oct 2020

As we move into October one expects variable weather, and driving to the Cotswold Hotel and Spa at Chipping Norton, two days of heavy rain had one wondering what conditions would face us for the Tour. Our first day course at Tadmarton had been closed the previous day, but we found it remarkably dry underfoot, in good condition and living up to its fine reputation. The first days competition, a straight forward best two from three stableford led to a little excitement when Mike C’s team posted 81 points, one ahead of his great rival Bobby B. However, on scrutiny of the cards, the shortening of the second hole from a par four to a par three due to drainage work, incurred an error from the normally scrupulously correct Mike C and, to Bobby’s great delight, reversed the result for he, Ronnie and Fraser to win by the smallest of margins!

We travelled a little further afield to the highly regarded Frilford Heath for day two, where again, despite passing flooded fields on the way, the heathland terrain was dry underfoot and presented lovely playing conditions, with Ronnie, Alison and Mike gaining a two point victory from Donna, Mike and Bob G, playing a Waltz.

The Cotswold Hotel and Spa was well received as a venue, providing good, spacious modern rooms, a wholesome breakfast and ideal evening dinners for the hungry golfer, while proving an excellent base for this tour. Barney is hosting a second 3 night break very shortly and I’m sure it will not be the last.

The course itself, the one time Chipping Norton GC, provided another enjoyable test for our final round, especially for Alison, Donna and Phil who romped home with a yellow ball score of 109 points and were clear winners from Mick, Mike and Fraser on 98.

Phil the Tooth, as he is affectionately known by many of us, following his move from Cheshire in recent years, is now a member at Tadmarton. He joined us as a non resident and presented bottles of beer from the local brewery to each competitor following the prize giving. A very nice touch Phil, and thank you for that kind thought.

Best regards
David
