Day One – Off to Amarilla this morning and as a personal achievement I managed not to sing the Tony Christie classic, although spent much of the day humming it. A splendid day greeted us and I always enjoy the holes down by the marina, with a couple of very imaginative par 3’s there. We started off with a team competition and despite everyone having emerged from a freezing Britain, there was some good golf all round. The winning quartet was comprised of Tim, Kim, Alistair and Jennie with a very commendable 74 points.
Day Two – We played at Golf del Sur today and played a new combination from their 27 holes of the South home of the fantastic par 3 surrounded on all sides by their featured black sand) and the new North which was really interesting. We decided on a pairs format and on 36 points Kim and Tolis with Liz and Rae, however the winners with a sterling 39 points were Tim and Trish. We finished off a great day with a visit to the lively Molina Blanco restaurant, were Paella, wine, music and dancing flowed in equal quantities!
Day Three – We played at the highly rated Las Americas today and for some of us it was our first visit and it certainly did not disappoint. Teams of three was the order of the day with one score per hole to count and everyone to count on the par 3s. By my calculation 52 points was par and all the teams were there and there abouts, however the last trio in of Lesley, Kim and Ken amassed 59 points to romp home comfortably. We had a drink in their superb clubhouse afterwards to discuss the days play and then off to Otello Restaurant for the Tenerife speciality of Garlic Chicken.
Day Four – the day off was a mixture of R&R and shopping for all of us. All of our group assembled for what was a great impromptu night out at a classic tapas and grill restaurant. The clue clearly was in the title of the venue, first class tapas followed by grilled meat / fish of the highest quality.
Day Five – Another beautiful golfing day for us today and Las Americas was in excellent condition for today’s pair event. The scoring matched the brilliance of the course and in third place newcomer Sandra teamed up with Tim for 38 points. In second place the dynamic duo of Helen and Jennie notched one more point, however the winners were Kim and Rae on 42 points! We named Kim “Queen of Las Americas” as she was a winner there on Tuesday too. Rae’s short game was on fire and she added to the score with a couple of her speciality – the four point hole! The clubhouse at Las Americas is a great place to finish the day and rounded off with a great Italian meal at Rossini’s gave us another perfect day.
Day Six – Our final day at the very scenic Costa Adeje course proved a great success, despite five minutes of light rain at the end of the days play. We had our full complement of 16 players for the day and went for a pair’s event. Scoring was good and there was a tie on 39 points with Kim & Rae and Jennie & Tim. As the latter pair scored one more point on the back nine, they took the days honours. Back to the hotel for a quick wash and brush up and straight for our second visit to the excellent Molino Blanco (White Windmill) restaurant for our last evening together. Some super food and nice music finished off the week perfectly.
It was a terrific tour with fun, golf, excellent meals and plenty of socialising that our great game always encompasses. When someone says it’s only a game, I think we at DSG would after trips like this one can say it is way more than that. I am really looking forward to returning to the island next November for more of the same.
All the best,
