Please don't hesitate to contact us about this tour

South-East Asia; culturally supreme, the warmth of the people unrivalled, the food exquisite, the weather a dream and some quite marvellous golf courses to play too. The first leg of the tour is in Phuket. With cloudless blue skies, the glistening Andaman Sea, temperatures in the mid-80’s, some quite wonderful golf courses and a super ocean side hotel; Phuket is a good alternative to spending the winter at home. We then head for a couple of days to one of the most invigorating cities in the world, Bangkok, with the option of extending by a further week in Hua Hin, another super coastal town, with a plethora of wonderful golf courses in its midst. This is what is on offer for February and March 2018!

9 Places Remaining

  • The weather is at its best in Phuket between January and March, with sunshine each day, virtually no rain and the humidity is at its lowest point of the year.  The golf courses on the island are some of the best in Thailand, with the top five to be played and three of them twice, such are their quality.  Laguna Golf Phuket, Blue Canyon and Red Mountain in particular are quite something.  The hotel for the stay in Phuket is the Amari Phuket, a super hotel, with a wonderful setting by the ocean.  Patong town is a short taxi or tuk-tuk journey away, as are some of the other amazing Phuket beaches, many of which have idyllic and high class restaurants on them, which we will visit in the evenings.  From Phuket, the tour heads to Asia’s shopping and cultural heartland of Bangkok.  There is no golf on this leg of the tour, but the opportunity for us to experience the oasis of Asian glitz and glamour on the one hand, and divine street food and bustling local markets on the other.  Bangkok is an endlessly fascinating fusion of culture, fashion and cuisine.  For those clients wishing to extend for a further week, we move on to Hua Hin.  Hua Hin has become a real favourite with golfers visiting Thailand, as the quality of the courses in and around the town are quite something.  Five rounds will be played, with Banyan Golf Club and Black Mountain Golf Club two that will remain long in the memory.

The tour provides a long-haul alternative to the traditional South Africa tour, which David is hosting. You therefore have the choice of Thailand with myself or South Africa with David, to escape from the winter blues at home.

If you wish to book a place on the Thailand Golf Tour, please let us know and we will send you the confirmation details accordingly.

    Loch Palm Golf Club

    ~ Breakfast

~ 18 holes Loch Palm Golf Club

Whilst Loch Palm Golf Club is not the longest Phuket golf course, it is one of the most enjoyable and consistent.  Nestling beneath a panoramic range of jungle-clad hills, Loch Palm is easy going although still capable of throwing down many challenges and giving players plenty of strategic thought.  As the Club’s name suggests, palm trees are liberally dotted around this parkland layout, although never too densely.

    Monday 19th February
    Laguna Golf Phuket

    ~ Breakfast

~ 18 holes Laguna Golf Phuket

Laguna Golf Phuket features a resort golf course with pleasant breezes from the Andaman Sea.  The course is not over demanding and reflects the natural beauty and tropical surroundings of Bang Tao Bay.  Phuket Golf Laguna is set on a valley floor overlooked by low wooded hills and marsh lands.  Many holes on the front nine are defined by the existing water bodies which have been naturally landscaped. The back nine meanders through mature stands of trees. Both nines take advantage of large overhanging trees which influence play and frame most of the holes. The rough areas are a mix of wood chip and native grasses. While there is infrequent use of bunkers, they are strategically positioned to appear prominent and come into play where necessary.

~ Full Day Phi Phi Island Tour by Speedboat (lunch included)

An idyllic way to spend the day, I assure you!  Today you will explore the beautiful Phi Phi Islands and beat the crowds there by travelling by speedboat on this tour. Your experienced professional guide will see that your enjoyment of such fantastic sites as Maya Bay, Viking Cave and Monkey Beach are not spoiled by hundreds of other tourists attempting to enjoy the view.  The Phi Phi Islands are widely regarded as a must-see while staying in Phuket. They feature striking limestone cliffs surrounded by white-sand beaches and crystal-clear tropical seas full of vibrant corals and friendly fish.  Maya Bay is the most famous of the sites to see, it being the setting for the Leonardo DiCaprio movie The Beach. Viking Cave is also a very interesting spot, where ancient paintings appear to depict Viking longships. Lunch will be taken on Phi Phi Island, with the opportunity for some shopping and sightseeing before the journey back to Phuket.

Blue Canyon Country Club – Lakes Course

    ~ Breakfast

~ 18 holes Blue Canyon Country Club – Lakes Course

The Blue Canyon Lakes Course is the second of the two courses at the Blue Canyon Country Club. Located close to the airport on the northern end of Phuket Island, the course has a quite spectacular setting.  Five sets of tees make this Phuket golf course suitable to a wide range of golfers from professionals to amateurs alike.  The 18th hole is widely considered one of Thailand’s best finishing golf holes. The long par-4 is only reachable in two by long hitters. Most players are better advised to play their second shots well short of the green and away from the jungle growing out of the open canyon fronting the green.

    Non-Golfing Day

    ~ Breakfast

    ~ Non-Golfing Day

A day to simply soak up the sun by the ocean, or perhaps to visit Patong Town for a foot, head and shoulders massage (highly recommended), as well as some shopping and / or further sightseeing.  If you wish to take on some more adventurous sightseeing, there are plenty of the options which the hotel will recommend and organise.

It is also worth noting that each evening dinner will be taken at different restaurants.  As mentioned in the introduction, there are numerous fine dining opportunities on some of the near-by beaches (on top of the cliffs hugging the beaches to be exact), as well as in Patong itself and the villages either side of the town.  Barney, in tandem with the English speaking tour guide who will be with you at all times, will book different restaurants each evening, ensuring that the culinary experience of the holiday, is every bit as good as the golf.

    Red Mountain Golf Club

    ~ Breakfast

    ~ Red Mountain Golf Club

Red Mountain Golf Club opened in 2007 and is now considered Phuket's most spectacular golf course. The course was designed to take advantage of a huge variety of landforms and dramatic elevation changes, making it Phuket's hilliest course.  The concept of variety has been carried into all areas of Red Mountain.  There are large and small greens; some with subtle breaks, some with wilder contours. Bermuda grass is used on the greens, which make for fast but smooth putting surfaces. Fairways and tees are grassed with Seashore Paspalum; a popular turf being used at other Thailand championship courses like Amata Spring and Thai Country Club, both in Bangkok. Wild, local grasses have been preserved in some rough areas to complete the natural look!

Phang Nga Bay National Park and James Bond Island Tour

    ~ Breakfast

~ Full Day Phang Nga Bay National Park and James Bond Island by Speedboat (lunch included)

Back on to the Andaman Sea today and to explore the famed James Bond Island, that was featured in Man with the Golden Gun and Tomorrow Never Dies. With steep walls, thick forests, and breath taking beaches, this island has something for everyone.  The day starts in Phang Na Province and the Suwankuha Temple, aptly nicknamed Monkey Cave.  Inside the cave, you find an enormous golden Buddha statue and a host of friendly monkeys.  You will subsequently arrive at the coast where a large boat will take you through unbelievably clear waters.  Relax on-board as you gaze out to see lush mangrove forests.  Around lunch time you stop in a quaint fisherman's village, Koh-Pan-Yee, for a delicious meal of traditional Thai cuisine before heading to James Bond Island, known as Khao Phing Kan.  Witness the sheer cliffs that tower straight up from the water and take in how dense the forests on top of the island are.  The guide will tell you about the James Bond films that took place here and point out iconic sights from the movies.  The mushroom-shaped Khao Tapu limestone rock is a wonder to behold and has many fascinating theories about how it was formed, including a theory from local folklore.

    Laguna Golf Phuket

    February

    ~ Breakfast

~ 18 holes Laguna Golf Phuket

You will play a second round at Laguna Golf Phuket today.  The course was recently redesigned and after fully reopening in January 2015, the new landscape provides players with two distinct scenic experiences, with lush tropical foliage on the front nine, and coconut groves and sand bunkers on the back nine.  The course is framed by the Phuket Mountains and the environmental lagoons, which combine to make Laguna Golf Phuket a truly idyllic golfing paradise.

Overnight – The Amari Phuket (4.5 Star)

    Monday 26th February
Blue Canyon Country Club – Canyon Course

    ~ Breakfast

~ 18 holes Blue Canyon Country Club – Canyon Course

The Canyon Course at the Blue Canyon Country Club is set in an abandoned tin mine and many of the old strip mine characteristics are still evident throughout the course. Streams filled with rust-colored water, canyons with sheer cliffs exposing red and white tin ore laden rock, and tailings from old mining operations are a few of the many throw backs to days of time gone by.   The 17th is also one of the most intimidating Par 3’s you will find anywhere, and even from the white tees, for most players it’s a long iron or a fairway wood to a partially hidden green that is tucked behind the canyon on the right.

Blue Canyon has a large clubhouse, with three restaurants, a well-stocked pro shop, lockers and shower facilities, massage and spa.  When it first opened, it set the standard for golf club excellence, that is now apparent across Phuket.

    Tuesday 27th February
    Red Mountain Golf Club

    ~ Breakfast

~ 18 holes Red Mountain Golf Club

A return to Red Mountain Golf Club today.  Voted the third best new course in Asia in 2007 by the readers of Asian Golf Monthly, Red Mountain’s best holes are the following:

    - Hole 1 (par 4), the 398-yard opening hole is the reason the golf course got its name as red ‘mountains’ raise from the green right in front of you.

    - Hole 3 (par 3), this 167-yard short hole makes its way through bushes and ferns in style.

    - Hole 16 (par 4), this long-hitters’ 301-yard hole offers distant sea views over Chalong Bay at the tee-box.

    - Hole 17 (par 3), this beautiful 169 yards hole has a drop of 50 metres between its tee-box and its green in a corridor of hills and forest.

Overnight – The Amari Phuket (4.5 Star)

    Wednesday 28th February
Blue Canyon Country Club – Lakes Course

    ~ Breakfast

~ 18 holes Blue Canyon Country Club – Lakes Course

The final round in Phuket is a second visit to the esteemed Blue Canyon Lakes course.  Established in 1999, the Lakes Course has water hazards coming to play on 17 out of 18 holes. The course is a mixture of water-filled canyons created by open cast mining with its natural land flow left relatively unchanged.  The front 9 holes run through a landscape of lakes and original canyons, whilst the back 9 holes weave around more scenic lakes and soft whispering woodlands of rubber trees.  The greens are much wider than the Canyon Course; in fact the Lakes Course boasts some of the largest greens in Asia.  Hole 6 occupies 1,115 sq.m. and the Hole 2 green is 1,040 sq.m. For Lakes Course, it is often easy to drive to the green but the real test of golfing mettle will be your putting skills to hole them.

Thonburi Klongs, Wat Arun and Royal Barge Museum Tour

    ~ Breakfast

~ Half Day Thonburi Klongs, Wat Arun and Royal Barge Museum Tour

Once known as the ‘Venice of the East’ due to its vast and intricate network of canals, it is no wonder that many of Bangkok's most spectacular attractions are set on the water's edge.  So there is no better way to discover the true heart of the city than by traditional long-tail boat, with a relaxing cruise through the famous waterways.  The tour starts with a ride along the Chao Phraya River, Bangkok's 'River of Kings', before entering the labyrinthine network of small canals, or ‘klongs’, where the pace of life feels far removed from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.  The Chao Praya River remains an important ceremonial thoroughfare, and you will have the chance to visit the Royal Barge Museum which houses the spectacular golden boats used by the King of Thailand on state occasions.  The half day tour ends at the beautiful riverside Wat Arun, the ‘Temple of Dawn’, which features a 79-meter-high Angkorian-style pagoda.

The afternoon will be at leisure for shopping and sightseeing, in one of Asia’s most extraordinary cities.
