Please don't hesitate to contact us about this tour

Touring Italy has become an annual event and one that I hugely look forward to. Golf in Italy is quite unique in a European context. The Clubs are still very much Members’ Clubs, without the commercialisation that we so often see elsewhere. Tradition, ambience, quality and a sense of it being a privilege to play the courses abound the Clubs, and it is all rather wonderful! And then of course there is Italy itself, elegance personified, style, panache, incredible food, sublime wine and extraordinary scenery. And for the 2018 the scenery of Lake Maggiore and Lake Como are extremely difficult to beat! The tour is based in Stresa on the banks of Lake Maggiore, complimented by a full days sightseeing of Lake Como in the middle of the week. Both lakes have a spellbinding magic to them, probably due to the mountains either side, the glistening waters and the simply enchanting villages on the banks of the lakes, such as Bellagio for example, and indeed the Islands within the lakes. We will also play some of the best courses in the region, as well as dining at fine Italian restaurants and soaking up the overall ambience of this wonderful region of Italy.

11 Places Remaining

  • We have toured Italy over many years now and each tour is always rich in culture, quality and that irrepressible Italian charm. The tour that stands out the most in the memory however, is the trip to the Italian Lakes, and a return is therefore very much warranted. And we are doing it in some style, with our hotel being the enchanting Regina Palace Hotel in Stresa, located on the shores of Lake Maggiore. The hotel is in the centre of Stresa and directly facing the Borromean Islands, and represents a fine example of prestige both in the hotel world and historically speaking. The Regina Palace Hotel opened in 1908, and still preserves its fin de siècle fascination, even though it has a renewed appearance as a result of a meticulous, albeit conservative refurbishment programme. The unique combination of charm and modernity will render our stay one to remember.

Depending on the time that you arrive, we will source a good television location in the hotel in order to watch the drama of ‘Day 2’ of the Ryder Cup unfold. The flight time from the UK to Milan is very short and if you are able to catch a morning flight, we will ensure that we create a good environment for watching the Ryder Cup that afternoon.

    Sunday 30th September:

    - Breakfast
    - Transfer to the golf club
    - 18 holes Bogogno Golf Club – Del Conte Course
    - Staying on the at the Clubhouse to watch the conclusion of the Ryder Cup
    - Transfer to the hotel

Our golf programme starts at Bogogno Golf Club and the Del Conte course. The Conte course is a par 72 with a design that is reminiscent of a links course, featuring wide open spaces, numerous flat sections, large lakes and a wild rough in border areas, which are framed by views of the Monte Rosa massif. An ideal course to commence our golf programme. We will be booking a reasonably early tee-time start in order to leave the afternoon free in the Clubhouse for us to watch the Ryder Cup Singles matches that afternoon. We are very conscious of the Ryder Cup taking place this weekend and have very much factored it into our planning.

    Monday 1st October:

    - Breakfast
    - Transfer to the golf club
    - 18 holes Le Robinie Golf Club
    - Transfer to the hotel

We depart Lake Maggiore this morning and head to Le Robinie Golf Club. The La Robinie Golf Club is an oasis of calm. The course is the only one planned and designed by Jack Nicklaus in Italy, and is a masterpiece and considered among the best in Europe. In the early 1990’s, Jack Nicklaus found himself in front of a land of around 70 acres that was meant to be the Le Robinie golf course. He did not have any doubts about what was to be done: dig, dig and dig. Bulldozers duly moved two million cubic metres of ground and gravel to create a masterpiece of depressions, amphitheatres, terraced bunkers and lakes leading the unmistakable imprint of the ‘Golden Bear’. One hundred golf courses in the world carry the same signature, but only one in Italy, this one!

    Tuesday 2nd October:

    - Breakfast
    - Transfer to the golf club
    - 18 holes Iles des Borromees Golf Club
    - Transfer to the hotel

The Golf Des Iles Borromées is a Course built in a natural and uncontaminated environment and situated 500 meters above sea level, with a southerly exposure, fresh in summer and sunny in winter. But above all we will be enchanted by the natural flora. Situated in an enchanting landscape, the course has some exceptional views of the Swiss Alps and of the Ticino Plain. From the 18th tee we can often see the skyline of Milan and four lakes; Lake Maggiore, Lake Varese, Lake Monate and Lake Comabbio.

    Wednesday 3rd October:

    - Breakfast
    - Full Day Tour of Lake Como and Bellagio
    - Transfer to the hotel

There is something truly special about Lake Como and we will spend the day experiencing it at first hand. Besides being the most famous of the Italian Lakes, Lake Como is one of the most beautiful places in the world. It has absolutely stunning views of the majestic mountains with their deep valleys running through them. The clear lake water is mesmerizing and varies in colour from light green to dark green/blue. On the rare occasion when the lake is still, it mirrors the magnificent scenery that surrounds it. The towns and villages along the lakes shores are very picturesque and each one of them feels like it could be home to any number of celebrities, and indeed most are! We will board a private motorboat with a tour guide, and gradually make our way along the Lake from Como itself to Bellagio, one of the most sublime and beautiful villages on the shores of Lake Como. During the sailing on the Lake, we will be able to admire the beautiful villas and gardens that can only be seen from the Lake. Once in Bellagio we will have time to explore the village before heading back to the hotel by coach later in the afternoon.

    Thursday 4th October:

    - Breakfast
    - Transfer to the golf club
    - 18 holes Bogogno Golf Club – Bonora Course
    - Transfer to the hotel

We return to Bogogno Golf Club today to play the Bonora course. The Bonora course is a par 72 with a lively design, and is far more parkland in nature than its sister Conte course. The course stretches over a large hill area surrounded by wild nature with numerous untouched streams and woods, as typical of the Ticino natural park area.

    Friday 5th October:

    - Breakfast
    - Transfer to the golf club
    - 18 holes Varese Golf Club
    - Transfer to the hotel

Varese Golf Club was founded in 1897 and moved to its current location in Luvinate in 1934. Today’s par 72 course is set in rolling countryside and is technically challenging. The Golf Club features tradition and history in a wonderful natural environment. The challenging course and historic monastery Clubhouse are set in mature woodland with spectacular views of the lakes and Monte Rosa. The signature hole is the 10th, a downhill par 4 with the Varese lake and the alps in the background. The Varese Golf Clubhouse is set in an old convent dating from the 12th century, built by craftsmen of the Comacine guild in Lombard Romanesque style. It housed Benedictine nuns until the 16th century, when St Carlo Borromeo decreed its closure. A fine course to bring our week in the Italian Lakes to a close.

    Saturday 6th October:

    - Breakfast
    - Check out of the hotel
    - Transfer to Milan Malpensa Airport
    - Departures

All good things must come to an end sadly, and as such transfers from the hotel to Malpensa Airport will be provided throughout the day, depending on your flight times. The Lakes region of Italy is simply unique and I very much hope that the Italian Lakes tour will create memories that will live with you for many years to come.
